On our founding, TDG first informed incumbents—from Blockbuster to Comcast—that the diffusion of broadband would forever alter the business of TV and video. Blockbuster didn’t listen, but Comcast did, and we all know how that turned out.
We warned in 2006 that a variety of Internet-based video services would emerge to subvert traditional gatekeepers and stream directly to consumers. Shortly thereafter, the term ‘over-the-top’ or ‘OTT’ was coined; a delivery mode that has, as TDG predicted more than a decade ago, redefined the TV and video industry.
