9:30 to 10:30 AM Opening the Floodgates: Over-the-Top Goes Mainstream
While broadband connections have traditionally terminated at the PC, new solutions enable consumers to enjoy Web-based video content on their primary home media platforms, in particular the living room TV. As this happens, the monopoly held by traditional video gatekeepers such as cable and satellite operators will loosen and consumers will be exposed to the vast array of content and features the Web uniquely enables.
This session will discuss the foundations of the "Over the Top" video delivery model, as well as examine the evolving ecosystem of the connected home. Questions addressed will include:
10:30 to 11:30 AM Riding the Wave: Defining the Consumer Experience
Consumers may view Over-the-Top broadband video as a replacement for traditional TV services or as a supplementary service. Whichever view wins out, there is no doubt the entry of Internet technology into the living room will forever change the way consumers experience video. The question isn't "if" it will change this experience but "how" and "to what extent."
TDG's latest consumer research will be presented to help define and understand video consumption behavior related to both traditional and new media. Topics will include:
11:30 to Noon Open Discussion
Noon to 1:00 PM Interactive Lunch
1:00 to 2:00 PM Empowering Over-the-Top: Hardware and Software Solutions
Over-the-Top broadband video delivery requires the presence of fairly sophisticated hardware and software, not only at the consumer premise but on open Internet and the back-end, as well. Selecting the right mix of hardware and software will depend on the desired consumer experience, fiscal restraints, and business model (among other considerations).
This session will identify and discuss the issues most important in weighing these considerations including:
2:00 to 3:00 PM Synthesizing Success: Creating a Winning Business Model
There are a variety of video distribution models enabled by New Media technologies, many of which are viewed as antithetical or threatening to the "old guard," others less so. Whether one views these models as threats or opportunities, there is little doubt of the impact they will have on video distribution.
This session examines the nature of these emerging business models, including:
3:00 to 3:15 PM Coffee & Conversation
3:15 to 4:00 PM Taming the Tsunami: Rendering Over-the-Top
No one knows more about Over-the-Top than TDG, and in this final wrap-up session, TDG's Michael Greeson and Colin Dixon will share their unique opinions and recommendations in this interactive "brainstorming" session. A great way to end a valuable day!
4:00 PM Sessions end. Analysts are available for additional questions
